On July 12, Mamoru Oshii's first Ghost in the Shell cyberspace film will be re-released in five Japanese cinemas in an improved Ghost in the Shell 2.0 version. The new version will incorporate new computer visuals and digital effects for several sequences, as well as a reunion of the majority of the ensemble for a new 6.1 surround sound recording. Randy Thom (Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence, The Incredibles, The Right Stuff) oversaw the new soundtrack, which includes fresh music by Kenji Kawai and a final mix done at Thom and Lucas Digital's Skywalker Sound facility in California. Yoshiko Sakakibara (Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence's Harraway, Ghost in the Shell) will play the intriguing Puppet Master role in the new edition.
